Driving tips in Cherkasy
The city's main axis is Shevchenka Boulevard, where the paid parking is concentrated; closer to the reservoir there are more spaces. The bottleneck is the Dnipro dam towards Zolotonosha: it is narrow and backs up at peak hours, so allow extra time when heading to the left bank.
Leaving the city: Smila is 30 km away, Kaniv 70 km, Chyhyryn 70 km, Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi 80 km and Uman about 190 km. The roads along the reservoir are narrow and wooded, and ice lingers on them longer than on the main highways in winter, so all-wheel drive and seasonal tyres are worth having.
Kaniv and Taras Hill
Kaniv is 70 km along the right bank, and with the return leg the trip comes to about 150 km — half of one day's allowance. A comfort sedan such as the Toyota Camry at $60 a day and $35 on the long rate takes it easily, and we fit the child seat before handover free of charge.
Uman and Sofiyivka Park
Uman with Sofiyivka Park is about 190 km away, which is already two thirds of a daily allowance one way and 380 km there and back. Either book at least two days, which gives you 600 km, or add unlimited mileage: $50 for comfort and $70 for business cars.
Chyhyryn and the Cossack routes
