Driving tips in Ivano-Frankivsk
The centre of Ivano-Frankivsk is compact and largely pedestrian: Nezalezhnosti Street is closed to cars and spaces around Vichevyi Maidan are limited, so visitors usually leave the car at the hotel and walk. The city itself is cleared quickly in winter — the trouble starts not here but above Nadvirna.
The main routes: Yaremche 60 km, Bukovel about 100 km on the H-09 through Nadvirna and Tatariv, Verkhovyna 110 km, Kosiv 95 km. The last eight kilometres of the climb to Drahobrat from Yasinia cannot be driven in an ordinary car — only purpose-built off-road transport run by local operators goes up, so our cars stay below in Yasinia.
Winter season in Bukovel
Bukovel is about 100 km away on the H-09 road through Nadvirna and Tatariv, and the final pass kilometres are not cleared instantly in winter. The seven-seat Toyota Land Cruiser 200 is $250 a day and $130 on the 26+ day rate, deposit $2,500; skis and boards travel in the boot, not on the roof.
The Hutsul region in summer
Verkhovyna, Kryvorivnia and Kosiv with its Saturday market sit on narrow roads where meeting a logging truck is routine. The diesel seven-seat Audi Q7 handles them calmly: $110 a day, $65 on the monthly rate.
A family or a group of friends
With six people and ski bags a seven-seat crossover is already tight. The Mercedes-Benz Vito Tourer takes eight at $110 a day and $65 on the 26+ rate, deposit $800 — the cheapest way to avoid splitting into two cars.
