Driving tips in Lviv
Central Lviv is cobblestones and paid parking zones: around Rynok Square, Svobody Avenue and Lychakivska the bays are metered by the hour and most streets are one-way. Low ground clearance is felt immediately on cobbles, so a crossover is the easier way in — an Audi Q5, VW Tiguan or Range Rover Velar. Parking is freer by Stryiskyi Park and the High Castle, both 15–20 minutes' walk from the centre.
The main routes out of Lviv: Truskavets and Skhidnytsia at 95 and 110 km, Slavske at 130 km, Bukovel at about 270 km via Stryi, Dolyna and Nadvirna. The Shehyni border crossing is 75 km away and Krakovets 70 km. In winter the mountain sections towards Slavske and Tukhlia call for all-wheel drive; seasonal tyres are already included in the rental.
The Golden Horseshoe castles in a day
Olesko, Pidhirtsi and Zolochiv form a loop of roughly 160 km — half of one day's mileage allowance. A comfort car is enough: a Mazda 6 at $50 a day or a Toyota Camry at $60, deposit $600–700.
