Through traffic on the M-06 bypasses the city, so Zhytomyr itself has almost no jams and you cross the centre in 10–15 minutes. Mykhailivska Street is pedestrian, so park on Soborny Square and the streets around it; by the Korolov cosmonautics museum spaces are usually free even at weekends.
Leaving the city: Korostyshiv 30 km, Denyshi 25 km, Berdychiv 45 km, Zviahel 85 km, Korosten 90 km, Ovruch about 150 km. Roads to the north of the region, towards Polissia, are narrower and rougher than the M-06 — take a crossover rather than a sedan if you drive them regularly.
A weekend at the Korostyshiv quarry
The flooded granite quarry at Korostyshiv is 30 km away and Denyshi on the Teteriv 25 km, and in both cases the last stretch is unpaved. An all-wheel-drive crossover makes more sense than a sedan here: the VW Tiguan is $75 a day and $33 on the monthly rate.
