What Documents Are Needed to Rent a Car in Ukraine in 2026
Renting a car at Apex Rent Car takes 10–15 minutes if the client comes with a full set of documents. But almost every day someone forgets their tax identification number or brings a driver’s license that has already expired. We have gathered everything you need to know about documents, age, driving experience, and formalities in one article.
Documents for Ukrainian Citizens
- Ukrainian citizen’s passport (booklet or ID card). If it’s an ID card, a registration certificate or an extract from Diia is also required.
- Category B driver’s license valid at the time of rental. We accept both plastic and digital licenses from Diia, but when handing over the car, we ask to show the physical document.
- Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN). It is included in the rental agreement.
- Bank card in the renter’s name for blocking the deposit. We accept Visa and Mastercard, both credit and debit cards.
Documents for Foreigners
Citizens of other countries can rent a car at Apex Rent Car under the same conditions. To complete the rental, a foreign passport and a national driver’s license are required. If the license is not issued in Latin letters, an International Driving Permit (IDP) is mandatory. We also require a document confirming legal stay in Ukraine: a border crossing stamp, visa, or residence permit.
The contract is drawn up in Ukrainian and English, so no translator is needed. The deposit for foreigners is the same as for Ukrainian citizens, but for exclusive-class vehicles, we may ask for a second identity document.
Age and Driving Experience Requirements
The minimum age of the renter is 20 years, with at least 2 years of driving experience. For business-class cars, the renter must be over 25 years old with at least 3 years of experience, and for exclusive-class vehicles (Mercedes-AMG G 63) — over 25 years old with at least 3 years of experience and a confirmed deposit of $2000. These rules are not due to distrust: the insurance company sets a higher deductible for young drivers, and we have to take it into account.
Additional Driver
If two people plan to drive, the second driver must be added to the contract. They must be present during the rental process with a passport and driver’s license and meet the same age and experience requirements. This option costs $5 per day. Without adding the second driver to the contract, insurance does not cover them, and in case of an accident, full responsibility lies with the renter.
