Tesla for Rent: How Much Does a Trip Cost Without Fuel
Electric cars are the most frequently requested category among clients who have never driven one before. Currently, Apex Rent Car’s fleet does not include electric vehicles; we plan to add them in 2027. Meanwhile, we are sharing the experience of a partner rental of a Tesla Model 3 so you know what to expect. Some want to try before buying, others just want to save on fuel. We asked one of our clients to keep a cost diary during a week-long rental and supplemented it with advice from our managers.
Rental Cost
The Tesla Model 3 Long Range in partner rental belongs to the comfort class: approximately $70 per day for 1–3 days rental, $60 for 4–9 days, and $45 for rentals over 26 days. The deposit is about $600. Driver requirements are standard: age from 20 years, driving experience of at least 2 years. Before handover, the manager conducts a 10-minute briefing on how to unlock the car with the card, how regenerative braking works, and where to find charging stations on the navigator.
Real-World Range
The official range of 580 km is under ideal conditions. In Kyiv during summer with air conditioning, the Model 3 covers 420–460 km on a single charge; in winter with heating, 300–350 km. On the highway at speeds of 110–120 km/h, expect 380–400 km. For daily city trips, charging is needed once every 3–4 days.
Our client drove 890 km in a week: daily trips to work in Pechersk, weekends in Uman, and several trips to Boryspil. He charged three times: twice at fast chargers and once overnight in the residential complex parking.
Where to Charge in Kyiv and How Much It Costs
- Fast chargers 50–150 kW from TOKA, Ionity, Ecofactor networks and at OKKO and WOG gas stations: 10% to 80% charge in 30–40 minutes, cost $12–16 per full session.
- Tesla Supercharger on Kyiv — Odesa and Kyiv — Lviv highways: 25 minutes to 80%, payment via card linked to the car.
- Slow chargers in shopping malls and business centers: often free, 6–8 hours for a full charge.
- Regular outlet at home or parking: 10–12 hours, the cheapest option, cable included.
Cost Comparison for the Week
For 890 km, our client spent $44 on electricity: two fast charging sessions at $15 each and one overnight charge for $14. The same distance in a gasoline crossover with a consumption of 7 l/100 km would require about 62 liters of fuel, costing $90–95. The savings are about $50 per week, and over $200 with daily use for a month. With long-term rentals over 26 days at $45 per day, the Tesla becomes one of the most cost-effective cars in the fleet.
What to Keep in Mind
Plan your charging in advance when the battery level drops to 20%: on weekends, fast chargers can have queues. Don’t leave the car charging at fast stations after 80% — the process slows down and some networks charge for idle time. Return the Tesla with at least the charge level specified in the handover report or pay an extra $15 for charging. Also, get used to regenerative braking: the car feels overly “braking” for the first half hour, then you stop using the brake pedal.
